And yet, it was completely uneventful. We left No Name Harbor in Key Biscayne, FL just after 2:00 am. Michael took the 2-6 watch, then woke me for the 6-10 watch for the approximately 50 nm trip across the Gulf Stream. Before noon, we were anchored at Cat Cay (pronounced “Key”) and had hoisted our “Q” flag. When we arrive in a new country, until immigration has officially checked us in, we fly a yellow “Quarantine” flag. Once we are official, we then fly the country’s courtesy flag.
By 3:00, I was starting to wonder where Michael was…and what exactly my plan might be if he didn’t come back with the dinghy and our passports. Not to worry, about twenty minutes later he showed up, paperwork and stamped passports (the first of many stamps, we hope!) in hand. Welcome to the Bahamas…and island time!
